Dear readers, we are happy to present the monthly newsleter, which will tell you about our organization activities done in September.

Armenia-Germany School Exchange Programme

 Within the framework of the Armenia-Germany School Exchange Program, on September 14-21,. Gyumri “Youth Initiative Centre” hosted a seven-member delegation from the Berlin largest school - Carl Von Linne special school. The goal of the project is the promotion of partnership between schools in Armenia and Germany, exchange of experience of the school children and teachers. The students and teachers from Shirak State University High School and Gyumri Photon College SNCO are involved in the programme from Gyumri. Within the framework of the programme, the German delegation made a tour in educational institutions, education development centers, as well as numerous historical and cultural places of Armenia - Vahramaberd and Marmashen churches, Garni-Geghard, Dilijan, Sevan, Yerevan and Tsitsernakaberd. 

“Girls' Leadership and Biking Program” fundraising event

On September 15, YIC “Girls' Leadership and Biking Program” fundraising event took place at “Villa Kars” hotel where we had guests from Armenia and abroad. It was an honor to have the U.S. Ambassador to Armenia Richard M. Mills Junior attend our event. 

During the event, the process and achievements of the biking program were presented. Then the sale of the book of poems "Being a Woman" by Anna Yeghoyan (youth worker, trainer) took place, the whole proceeds were donated to the program to ensure its continuity.

The final event of the YIC Girl’s Bicycle Project 

On September 13th, the final event of the YIC Girl’s Bicycle Project was held in Emili Aregak Center. During the event the participants showed their riding skills. Afterwards there was a small celebration at the “Youth House” Open Youth Center, where participants and trainers of the program were awarded with certificates.

World Ceanup Day

On September 15th, we and our volunteers together with “Youth House” Open Youth Centre joined World Cleanup Day as well. We cleaned adjacent territory of our centre.

Members Meeting 

On September 22 Gyumri “Youth Initiative Centre” NGO members meeting was held in the Youth House.

During the meeting members were presented the semi-annual reports of Managerial and Supervising Bodies (President, International Board, Controller), the implemented projects of the organization and the upcoming actions. Besides the new members were introduced to the others and were handed membership cards.

YIC volunteers’ meeting 

On September 21, 2018 a non-formal meeting took place at YIC office with volunteers involved in the organizing activities of the International Youth Day events. Volunteers shared their impressions and made new proposals.
At the end Gyumri YIC NGO handed certificates to volunteers for active participation and support in organizing activities of IYD events.

European Voluntary Service 

On August 25,  the farewell event for Alexander Hooikammer took place.

 

During the event, EVS Coordinator Mariam Gharagyozyan awarded the volunteer with a Certificate of Appreciation and YouthPass for his work.

 

Let us note that Davit Muradyan has successfully started his voluntary work in Poland.  Raffi Shahbazyan and Ashot Tadevosyan will soon leave for Croatia to carry out their voluntary work.

 

We have a new EVS project in Greece, for which applications deadline have already been completed, we will present the selected participant later.

Mobility with YIC 

An Erasmus+ youth exchange project “Different View” on the topic of Photography took place in Poland. 

Armenian team was presented by Manya Grigoryan, from Armenian National Students' Association, Arsen Yavruyan, sportsman and student at French University of Armenia, Hranush Avetisyan, student at Shirak State University, Yuri Khachatryan, musician and Anahit Baghdasaryan, journalist, coordinator and photographer.

Another Erasmus+ Youth Exchange Project on “The Other Side of Entrepreneurship” took place in Italy.
Armenian delegation was presented by Norayr Margaryan, co-founder of “Inspired By Her – Armenia” project, Davit Aghabekyan, founding member of "Development Initiatives" socio-economic NGO, Mariam Mazmanyan, social work supervisor from “Fund for Armenian Relief”, Garik Gevorgian, student and legal adviser at Armenian-Russian University, Lidia Arzumanyan, YIC PR manager and student of State Economic University Gyumri branch and Hovhannes Harutyunyan, YIC member and Audit senior at “Ernst and Young Armenia”.

After a short summer vacation, in September the centre doors for youngsters were reopened, where thematic weeks, various trainings and events continued.


The centre has also been replenished with new educational and entertainment games  that make the youngsters' routine more exciting.


In September the following clubs  were launched: English Club for Beginners, English Club for Intermediate level and Computer literacy club.


Within the frames of "Movies" thematic week, animation hours were held, numerous films and animations from Armenian and foreign productions were screened, film discussions were organized.

The month ended with the final forum of “Open youth work: Empowering young people in Gyumri” project. During the forum the results of one-year work has been presented. Some of “Youth House” youngsters had speeches at the forum presenting their experience and success stories with the centre.
